The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA” under the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” inaugurated the 4th edition of the Tarsheed Carnival in the Kahramaa Awareness Park with the slogan “It is Time for Change”. The carnival will last until February 27.

The annual Tarsheed Carnival is one of the most important environmental sustainability and awareness events in the country that showcases sustainability efforts of public and private institutions. This edition marks the start of the ten-year countdown to achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030.

The carnival aims to shed light on the most important sustainability projects and means of reducing carbon dioxide consumption. It also includes a number of activities that raise awareness of the importance of energy conservation and efficiency to achieve a sustainable future, through interactive and entertaining competitions, training workshops in addition to theatrical performances and other events.

The carnival activities are held in two interludes, the morning period from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM focuses on school students, while the evening period from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM is open to the public. The carnival opens its doors to the public on the weekend during the evening period only.

The fourth edition of the Carnival is sponsored by a number of organizations, including: Vodafone Qatar, the exclusive sponsor of communications, Qatari Diar, Gold Sponsor, in addition to ConocoPhillips, Total Qatar and Mawater, Bronze Sponsors.

The carnival highlights the role of participating public and private organizations, and their efforts in achieving sustainability goals, including the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Interior, the Public Works Authority, Hamad Medical Corporation, the Al Shabhanah Environmental Association, the Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Cool Company, Georgetown University represented through the Sustainability Club, Qatar Scientific Club, Al Gannas Association, in addition to a number of centers, initiatives and other entities.

Further, in support of changing the cultural mindset of society, KAHRAMAA launched the Sustainability Bazaar for the first time in this edition of the Tarsheed Carnival. The Bazaar is the first mobile market that provides environmentally friendly materials to support small and medium youth projects. It is one of the most important sections of the carnival and aims to provide products that are not vastly available in the Qatari market.

A zone has also been designated for cafes and restaurants that contains a number of young Qatari enterprises to support the youth and motivate them to persist in their endeavors.

Statement by HE Eng. Issa Hilal Al-Kuwari, President of KAHRAMAA

"Today we inaugurated the 4th edition of the Tarsheed Carnival, an annual occasion to highlight the efforts of various public and private entities and institutions in achieving sustainability goals. 2020 marks the start of the countdown towards the Qatar National Vision 2030, so we wanted, through the Tarsheed Carnival, to draw attention to the need to mobilize efforts and positive change towards achieving its goals.

This year’s carnival edition includes many events that are organized for the first time, such as the Sustainability Bazaar, which is the first mobile market that sells environmentally friendly products in support of small and medium youth enterprises. All this falls within the framework of KAHRAMAA’s support for such projects and our social responsibility.

We thank all the sponsors and partners who contributed to the success of this edition of the Tarsheed Carnival. This year’s carnival garnered a great turnout from the public and school students, and that reflects the community’s response with the initiatives of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” and shows that we are achieving our goal of reaching all groups and segments of society and raising awareness on the importance of energy conservation and  preserving the environment without compromising the individual's welfare"
