KAHRAMAA Launches the Annual Tarsheed Competitions for 2020

6 Competitions in Different Fields​​

Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "Kahramaa" launched its annual Tarsheed competitions, one of the initiatives of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed”, to encourage and urge society and the various sectors in the country to apply best practices in electricity and water conservation and promote energy efficiency through six competitions on conservation techniques, renewable energy and community outreach.

In relation to conservation techniques, this year marks the 8th edition of Tarsheed Conserving Buildings Competition, which will be held under the slogan “Green from the ground up”, with the aim of creating awareness on the concept of building conservation among all sectors of society and on the benefits of applying sound practices  energy and conservation, mobilize and encourage the local community to adopt environmental conservation and energy efficiency strategies, and motivate participants to adopt building conservation practices in the local construction market. Buildings from the governmental, residential, commercial, industrial, and hospitality sectors are eligible to participate in the competition that is open till 10 March 2020.

Moreover, the competition of the best water recycling initiative held under the slogan “Reduce, Recycle, Reuse” comes as part of efforts to conserve and reuse water. All sectors are eligible to participate in the competition, the compitition is open till 20 March 2020.

In the renewable energy sector, the competition for the best research project for renewable energy was launched under the slogan "Powering Up on Clean Energy”, with the aim of supporting the development and renewal of technology and business models that promote sustainable energy and efficiency and help reduce harmful carbon emissions for a sustainable future in the State of Qatar. All Engineering Faculties in the State of Qatar are eligible to participate in the competition, which will run until March 20, 2020.

In the field of community outreach and education, KAHRAMAA, via Tarsheed, has launched three competitions targeting all segments of society: Best School Project on Sustainability and Energy Efficiency with the slogan “Unleash you Sustainable Ideas” for all school students in the State of Qatar in order to encourage and support innovative creative ideas in addressing the challenges of the sustainable development goals, which will run until March 20th; the Best Recycled Art Competition to promote the use of recyclable materials, with a view to educating the community about the importance of recycling, which contributes to achieving the goals of the program in reducing carbon emissions produced during the disposal of these materials, and the competition runs until April 2, 2020; and finally the Competition for Best Article on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy with the slogan “Together Towards Sustainability” which allows all writers and journalists in all local newspapers and magazines in the State of Qatar to submit articles on a topic related to renewable energy and energy efficiency and their role in improving the environment and reducing emissions, to offer creative ideas or invite the community to implement energy efficiency and achieve sustainability in accordance with the Qatar Vision 2030 - the competition will run until 20 March 2020.

KAHRAMAA invites all community members to participate in the competitions. All terms and conditions and information on the competitions can be viewed via Tarsheed portal on KAHRAMAA website km.qa/tarsheed, noting that submissions will be assessed by a committee of experts that includes representatives of research centers, universities and ministries according to the specific criteria for each competition. The winners will be honored in the 8th Annual Tarsheed Celebration that will be held next April as a role model in the field of conservation and energy efficiency.

It is worth noting that KAHRAMAA through the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” and within the framework of its social responsibility, organizes the Tarsheed competitions annually in order to encourage and urge the community to implement energy efficiency and conservation practices that help reduce electricity or water consumption and carbon emissions, to achieve Tarsheed’s goals based on Qatar National Development Strategy (2018 - 2022).
