KAHRAMAA Launches Best Sustainable Local Product Competition

1

Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA” has launched the Best Sustainable Local Product Competition, which is the first of its kind in Qatar. The competition aims at encouraging the industrial and commercial sector to produce more eco-friendly sustainable products. It is one of the initiatives of Kahramaa’s National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) and will last until 1 April 2018.

The competition meant to raise awareness about the concept of sustainability and its role in the progress of domestic production in Qatar; to encourage industrial and commercial sector in particular to adopt environment conservation and sustainability achievement strategies in their production processes and adopt rationalization and energy efficiency practices in the domestic market; and to promote competitiveness between the industrial and commercial sectors and private sector development in Qatar.

All applications shall be submitted through Tarsheed page on KAHRAMAA website km.qa/Tarsheed, after reviewing the terms and conditions, and filling in the registration form. The competition targets participants from the industrial sector (owners of Qatari and foreign factories operating in the State of Qatar) and the commercial sector that operates in the country (Qataris and investors in Qatar). The competition is concerned with preserving the environment and sustainability either in the type of product, the mechanism of production or both.

The winners of the best sustainable local product are to be honored during the sixth annual Tarsheed ceremony in April 2018, as a model for local product support and Qatar's contribution to a sustainable environment for us and generations to come.

It is worth mentioning that KAHRAMAA – through the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” and in the framework of its social responsibility – launches Tarsheed Competitions annually to encourage the community to apply sound practices of rationalization and energy efficiency that help reduce electricity and water consumption and reduce carbon emissions in order to achieve Tarsheed Program goal of reducing the consumption of electricity by 25% and of water by 35% until 2022.
