The Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) signed a slew of Electricity networks expansion projects contracts with a number of local and International companies for Phase 13- Qatar Power Transmission System Expansion Plan.
The contracts were signed today at KAHRAMAA Tower by KAHRAMAA’ President, HE Eng. Essa Bin Hilal Al- Kuwari in the presence of the Minister of Energy and Industry HE Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada with representatives of each company which have been selected after bidding procedures to carry out these projects. The signing ceremony was also attended by KAHRAMAA’s Directors, managers and top officials of involved companies including media representatives.
The upcoming projects involve contractors and consultants for Transmission infrastructure development to implement through appropriate international and local private EPC participation. The EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contracts for Phase 13 are for the supply and commissioning of transmission cable and substations.
The contractors who signed the contracts with KAHRAMAA for the construction of sub- stations are:
1. Siemens AG & Siemens WLL consortium (Qatar ),
2. Larsen& Toubro (India),
3. NCC (KSA),
4. Gulfar (Qatar),
5. Best & Betas Consortium (Turkey)
Contractors who signed for transmission cables are:
1. LS Cable and system (S-Korea) ,
2. Larsen& Toubro (India),
3. Furukawa (Japan) .
4. Elsewedy Cables (Qatar & Egypt)
All the projects falling under this phase are vital and important for the country as it includes construction of sub- stations, laying of High Voltage cables at major infrastructure- oriented projects of the country across the capital city and suburbs.
All projects will contribute to improving the power infrastructure in and around Doha, enabling KAHRAMAA to help achieving Qatar National Vision 2030. These projects include construction of total 77 substations which are being built in various locations of the country. Phase 13 projects also cover up gradation of few old substations.
The project will also witness lying of total 453.3 Kilo Meters Extra High Voltage (EHV) cables under following specifications:
• 400kV cables: 36 KM
• 220kV cables: 47.5 KM
• 132kV Cables: 285.8 KM
• 66kV cables: 84KM
Speaking at the occasion, KAHRAMAA’s President HE Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari said that the signing of contracts is in line with KAHRAMAA’s mission and objectives to provide high quality electricity and water services in the state and in line with the company’s sustainable development’s commitment towards Qatar National Vision 2030 and National Development Strategy to keep pace with economic and urban development, investment in human capital, environmental protection and the preservation of national wealth for future generations.
The expansion plan has been devised to meet the growing demand for electricity in Qatar, as the country continues to witness tremendous development and urbanization. The utility provider’s expansion project aims to ensure stable power supply to all sectors including households, business centers, shopping malls, hospitals and schools, Eng Al- Kuwari added.
