​Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA” organized various activities and awareness events on the occasion of the World Glaucoma Week (11-18 March 2018) in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health under a theme “Beat Invisible Glaucoma”.

Health, Safety and Environment Department at KAHRAMAA organized an awareness campaign for the employees to raise awareness of Glaucoma under the slogan "Save Your Sight... Get Your Eyes Tested!" The activities included screening of eye pressure and refractive error of the employees to for prevention and early detection of the disease through simple tests. Early detection of the disease provides an opportunity to treat it and prevent its devastating effect on the optic nerve.

During the World Glaucoma Week, KAHRAMAA also posted educational messages on social media sites to create awareness among the community about seriousness, prevention methods and early detection of the disease. This come due to KAHRAMAA 's role as a leading corporation in the country that pays special attention to Social Responsibility.

These events are part of KAHRAMAA's keenness on health and safety of its staff and in pursuit of its goal of ensuring a safe and healthy work environment. This represents one of the areas through which it can provide support to the community.

Intraocular pressure, or Glaucoma, is the second-leading cause of blindness worldwide, although it is easily diagnosed by normal eye detection. This disease is the leading cause of blindness in Qatar, where the prevalence of glaucoma among citizens of Qatar aged 40 years and older was 1.71%.
