The fastest electric cars charger in Qatar
Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA”, through the National Program for Conservation & Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed”, has announced the accomplishment the charging station No. 19, which has been operated and installed for charging the electric cars at Cultural Village “Katara”, on Thursday, June 24, 2021.
In this regard, H.E. Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, KAHRAMAA President, said: “We are glad of this cooperation between KAHRAMAA and Katara, with which we have a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at achieving the sustainability objectives in accordance with Qatar Vision 2030. For the station, it is the nineteenth one we have installed, through which we announce the installation and operation of the fastest charger for electric vehicles in the State of Qatar with a capacity of 180 KW and with a direct current system that has the ability to fully charge the car in less than 10 minutes.”
His Excellency added: “This station comes within the 1st phase of completing the electric vehicle charging network infrastructure and has joined the other operated stations at several vital locations across Qatar, which is “Installation and operation of many pilot stations”. KAHRAMAA has accomplished several pilot stations to identify the most quality types, evaluates the highest suitable standards for Qatar and the adopted operation methods in different locations of the State. 19 stations have been implemented and it represents an effective model for guidance in all sectors of the State and they include: KAHRAMAA building station in Mesaieed as a solar station model which is the first one operates via solar energy usage and storage. Moreover, two stations to charge electric buses at Mowasalat Company Building, one for fast charging and the other for night charging, as models for different bus stations. KAHRAMAA is continuously working to complete installation and operation of 8 new stations in collaboration with other institutions in Qatar, among which, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Qatar Foundation and Qatar Museums.”
It is worth mentioning that KAHRAMAA is about to finish the awarding a general tender of installation and operation of 100 electric charging stations around the State of Qatar. This award is the basis of the first infrastructure for charging electric vehicles in the State, where 100 charging stations will be installed and operated at vital locations such as intersections, shopping malls, government buildings, hotels, as well as many parking at Metro Rail stations during the year 2021. The stations’ capacities vary according to the locations, specifications and standards set by KAHRAMAA for electric charging in the country.
This award comes as a part of the joint working plan between Ministry of Transport and Communications and Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA” to establish an integrate network of stations, in coordination with many authorities of Qatar such as Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Traffic Department and others.
Other stations will be available for electric charging in serving and vital areas such as the project of Beautification of Roads & Public Places in Qatar, in cooperation with Ashgal, to support the country’s march towards achieving sustainability and economic and environmental balance for infrastructure projects. In addition, it comes to support the economic development and achieve the maximum benefits from the natural resources results from saving and exporting gas to benefit from its revenues, reduce the carbon footprint of the State of Qatar and diversify energy sources. About 20% of the stations will be implemented with renewable and clean energy systems.
KAHRAMAA, through the National Program “Tarsheed”, seeks to provide a healthy and safety environment for coming generations in line with Qatar Vision 2030, via promoting the sustainability and reducing the carbon emissions to achieve its commitment of the National Strategy of Qatar 2018-2022 represented in reducing million ton annually of the carbon emissions rate in the State of Qatar.
