In the context of the ongoing efforts to improve electrical transmission grids, the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA” has launched Al Mazrouah and Al Froosh Electrical Substations to expand power transmission grids according to the highest safety and security standards. The launch took place towards the end of 2020 at a cost of 230 Million QAR.
The total cost of Al Mazrouah Substation, which is fed by Al Sakhama Super Substation, is 134 Million QAR, and it is meant to feed the National Service Academy Substation. As for Al Froosh Substation, which has a voltage of 11/132 KV, the total cost of construction is 96 Million QAR, and it is fed by the northern Izghawa Substation, which in turn supplies government residential divisions in the region with power. The Substations are equipped with 250 MVA cables, and include control panels with a voltage of 132kV and 11kV, and transformers with a voltage of 40MVA, and it is worth noting that despite the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, KAHRAMAA managed to complete the construction of the two Substations with more than 838,164 working hours and without any injuries.
KAHRAMAA seeks to provide the highest reliability criteria in its networks according to the highest international standards. This was achieved by using an advanced protection system for control switches with a voltage of 11/132 kV that is linked to the optical fibre network, which can immensely improve the level of protection of network feeders. KAHRAMAA is also keen on following security and safety standards in all its activities and operations. This was manifested in the continuous conduction of its projects according to its strategic plans without recording any injuries or accidents among workers, which had a positive impact on workers’ productivity.
KAHRAMAA commissioned 32 Substations in 2020, the last of which were Al Mazrouah and Al Froosh Substations, which were built to meet the increasing needs and the growing demand on power supply. These projects also aim to enhance the security and continuity of the services provided through electrical transmission and distribution networks, in a way that goes in line with KAHRAMAA Substations' operational frameworks and contributes to the most vital future projects in the state of Qatar.
