​Qatar General Electricity & water Corporation “KAHRAMAA” agreed with Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) to construct reverse osmosis (RO) desalination plant. It comes within KAHRAMAA endeavor to increase production capacity to meet the increasing demand within the development the State witnesses and population increase. 

KAHRAMAA has approached IPPs in Qatar to submit their offers for the production of additional capacity to meet the increasing demand. KAHRAMAA has found QEWC proposal the best in terms of the technical and financial aspects. KAHRAMAA has assigned the letter of commitment for QEWC to start work. Water purchase agreement will be concluded within the coming three months. 

Base on this agreement, QEWC will construct the desalination plant. It works on RO technology bases. It is the first of kind of Qatar with a capacity of 36 MIGD. Mitsubishi will carries out design, supply, and construction works.  The project is expected to be completed in Q3 2016 at a total cost of USD 500 bn. KAHRAMAA will purchase production under 25  year agreement.  The additional production should promote network performance to meet demand.

It is worth to mention that KAHRAMAA witnesses great development in water sector infrastructure. It carries out various projects to increase the strategic storage. This includes the construction of giant reservoirs, pumping stations, and transmission lines. These projects are meant to secure water supplies, meet the increasing demand, and improve service.

The agreement comes within a series of agreements KAHRAMAA will sign to develop electricity and water production capacities to meet the increasing demand. It goes in line with KAHRAMAA mission of Providing High Quality and Sustainable Electricity and Water for Better Living in Qatar.
