1
Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) is observing 22nd March as World Water Day 214, a day which emphasizes the significance of global need to save, conserve and manage water resources responsibly for future generations. Both water and energy are in limited supply, yet global demand is soaring. The theme of this year is Water and Energy.

KAHRAMAA is committed to provide Qatar’s need of high quality water services following the best international and local standards, and in accordance with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030: “Management of the environment such that there is harmony between economic growth, social development and environmental protection”.

Adhering to the policies of our beloved nation and under the visionary and able leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al- Thani, the Emir of Qatar, KAHRAMAA pays much attention to conserve water for the future generations and for the optimal use of resources. We have revised our strategy accordingly and we have the mission of providing high quality and sustainable water for better living in Qatar.
The World celebration of water day coincides with GCC celebration of Conservation week as of 22nd, March. The GCC conservation week is meant to highlight the importance of conservation for the sustainability of resources. KAHRAMAA celebrates this occasion by holding various activities for students in particular to stress the importance of conservation in GCC, the region that suffers from water scarcity.

KAHRAMAA has launched the national program for conservation and efficient use of water and electricity "Tarsheed". It aims to reduce electricity and water per capita consumption by 20% and 35% respectively in over five years. Tarsheed has gained momentum as reduction in electricity and water consumption can be seen. Electricity and Water consumption has been reduced by 10% and 6% respectively in 2013 compared with 2012. KAHRAMAA has implemented various strategic projects, set awareness programs and regulating standards, and applied conservation law No. 26 for 2008.  It has also helped in inculcating the culture of conservation among residents by making use of all communication tools including social media, and approaching the target audience at all sectors including schools, mosques, and public places. KAHRAMAA has partnered with various types of organizations and communities to see the goals of the program achieved.

In addition to the Tasheed Program, KAHRAMAA has moved forward towards having water security. KAHRAMAA managed recently to increase Qatar strategic water storage by 126% after commissioning five water stations at a total capacity of 561 MIG.

Aiming conserve fresh water, KAHRAMAA’s District Cooling Services will soon have new milestone by replacing equipment to use treated sewage effluent (TSE) in place of fresh water in ‘District Cooling’ plants in Qatar. This will add much value to our water conservation drive.

For the better water- related planning and integrated approach, KAHRAMAA along with other organizations is actively involved with the Permanent Water Resources Committee (PWRC) under the Chairmanship of HE Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al- Sada, Qatar’s Minister of Energy and Industry. At this significant occasion, I request all to save water for our future needs and generations.
