Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA” celebrated the Earth Hour on Saturday 24th March 2018, at KAHRAMAA Awareness Park under the theme "Connect to Earth" amidst the presence of Minister of Energy and Industry H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, KAHRAMAA President H.E. Eng Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, and a number of senior figures and officials.

The event witnessed a number of awareness activities. The audience signed the map of Qatar to show their commitment towards Earth by reducing consumption, preserving the environment and reducing carbon emissions, as a national responsibility and a moral duty. In addition, the event witnessed a visual presentation to introduce Earth Hour as a global initiative aimed at raising awareness of environmental issues.

At the event's conclusion, lights were switched off from 8:30 am to 9:30 pm, in commemoration of Earth Hour, and in solidarity with the world in this global initiative, which aims to raise public awareness on the importance of addressing the dangers of global warming and climate change by switching off lights and unnecessary electrical devices for one hour.

KAHRAMAA’s participation in raising awareness of energy efficiency and consumption reduction among the members of society contributes to the achievement of the objectives of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) and ensures the achievement of sustainable environmental development in accordance with Qatar National Vision 2030. Many sectors in Qatar participated in the Earth Hour by turning off the lights in response to this world-wide initiative.

It is worth mentioning that Earth Hour is the world's largest environmental grassroots initiative on climate change initiated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2007. Sydney was the first city to launch this campaign. During this occasion, millions of people around the world and environmentalists gather to raise awareness about how to preserve the environment and about the threats to our planet.
