Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA”, representing
Qatar, won two international awards for its sustainability report at the 2017
“Asia Sustainability Reporting Awards”. The ceremony was held on Tuesday February
6, 2018, at the British Embassy in Singapore in the presence of the British
High Commissioner there and the Regional Director of the United Nations
Environment and Social Responsibility Program in Asia. KAHRAMAA’s Conservation
and Energy Efficiency Department Manager received the award on behalf of the Corporation.
The competition organizer, CSR Matters, selected KAHRAMAA’s sustainability
report entitled “Implementation of Smart Solutions for Resource Rationalization”
as the best report in terms of Materiality reporting, and work environment
reporting. KAHRAMAA won the awards against 72 international institutions from various
Asian countries. KAHRAMAA was also awarded an appreciation certificate for
being one of the most outstanding candidates to win the 2017 Asia Best
Sustainability Report, and was nominated for the best sustainability report for
excellence in customer service. KAHRAMAA had applied for 6 categories in the
competition and was nominated for 4 awards.
These international awards are presented to international organizations
and corporations representing Asia with the best sustainability practices in
terms of adequate planning and management of resources so as to guarantee
sustainability for future generations. This year, the competition attracted a
big number of international corporations in Asia in the industrial,
governmental, commercial, and other fields, given that the awards of this competition
are considered among the most inspiring ones in sustainability at both the
international and continental levels. CSR Matters is one of the most prominent
sustainability and social responsibility corporations at the international
level and organizes the most renowned sustainability competition in Asia. The
event is held once a year, granting institutions operating in Asia in all
sectors (whether local or international) the opportunity to build confidence
and raise awareness among the concerned parties through providing them with a
platform to showcase their social responsibility initiatives.
In November 2017, KAHRAMAA’s sustainability report was also awarded the
GRI General Disclosures and Management Approach Certificate, the highest
recognized classification among the international sustainability certificates.
The certificate is also the most recent as the report was studied for the first
time based on the 17 global Sustainability Development Goals identified by the
United Nations according to the 2030 SDGs global agenda. KAHRAMAA’s sustainability
report is divided into four main sections: economy, environment, society, and
human resources, exhibiting KAHRAMAA’s commitment to the Qatar 2030 vision
which is reflected in all its objectives, plans, and actions, and which was
documented as a sustainability report for the corporation. This also represents
a step ahead in the Corporation’s journey of strategic transformation and
institutional innovation that was launched in 2014 as well as an extension of the
National Development Strategy (2017-2022).
KAHRAMAA’s sustainability report had earned the 2016 Asia Best
Sustainability Report Award in terms of its materiality, and customer service
in all sectors. The Corporation’s sustainability efforts and report are
supported by KAHRAMAA senior management, directors, managers, and employees. Great
efforts are also made by all contact points in all of KAHRAMAA departments for
the report to comply with global sustainability goals and the quality standards
pursued by KAHRAMAA.
