A Distinguished Participation of KAHRAMAA in Qatar Sustainability Week 2017

Under the patronage of H.E Sheikh Abdulla Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA” participates in Qatar Sustainability Week organized by Qatar Green Building Council; a membership of Qatar Foundation, which lasts till 4th November 2017. 
H.E Mohammed Bin Abdulla Al- Rumahi has opened the event which included launching the 3rd edition of Qatar Green Building Conference. The ceremony is held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF).
H.E Eng. Essa Bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, President of Qatar General Electricity & Water corporation “KAHRAMAA”; in presence of many executive leaders, has participated in the discussion session under the title “Sustainability in Qatar: Challenges & Opportunities”. 
Discussion Session
Within discussion session, H.E KAHRAMAA President has review Corporation’s efforts towards attaining sustainability as well as achievements of the National Program for Conservation & Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed”, since its launched in 2012 under the Patronage of H.E Sheikh/ Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State. The program has succeeded during the last five years in reducing carbon emissions rate by 8.5 M Ton, electricity and energy sector’s emissions by 46% in 2013 and it became 39.6% in 2016.   
H.E. clarifies that KAHRAMAA seeks through the National Program “Tarsheed” to disseminate conservation culture, create an ideal environment by preserving vital resources of the State, reduce electricity and water consumption per capita during coming years to reach 25% for electricity and 35% for water till the year 2022. The program also works in identifying public of the practices for being environmentally friendly to contribute in conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy. The program also has another strategic objective represented in reducing approximately 6 M Ton of harmful carbon emissions by 2022.
H.E. also mentioned the great role of KAHRAMAA Awareness Park (KAP); which established for all public, in disseminating awareness and educating coming generations of the principle related to conserving electricity and water, energy efficiency and renewable energies.
Memorandum of Understanding
On the other side, the opening session has witnessed a MoU signing between KAHRAMAA; represented in Tarsheed, Qatar Green Building Council, Aspire Zoon, and Your Health First Program. The MoU is represented in “Your Life is Green” initiative which works to disseminate awareness in a healthy life style and eco-friendly gathered all conservation, health and sport. 
Exhibition
The opening session followed by a tour around the exhibition which has been held within the activities of this week and It contains a number of participant suites. KAHRAMAA suite was honored with the visit of H.E. Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF); where H.E. identified the experiment of the National Program for Conservation & Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” in achieving energy sustainability.
Sustainability Award
The event has witnessed a Sustainability Awards ceremony where the National Program for Conservation & Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” has attained Qatar Green Building Council Award for its total sustainability works. This award comes as an appreciation to KAHRAMAA efforts in the field of conserving consumption and disseminating awareness of the sustainability importance via the National Program “Tarsheed”. 
Work Paper
KAHRAMAA has participated with two working papers for Eng. Mohammed Al-Sharshani and Mrs. Maryam Al-Mohamedi from Conservation & Energy Efficiency Department under the title “Our Schools Are Green & Sustainable is the Future’s outcome”. The working papers talked about Tarsheed Project 22 “T22” which has been implemented in 44 independent schools in its 1st and 2nd phases, and started its 3rd phase with the beginning of this year in another 22 schools. They also reviewed the initiative of “Green Schools” where KAHRAMAA has instilled Solar Panels on the roofs of winning schools in T22 Project.  
It is worth mentioning that Qatar Sustainability Week provides opportunity for all concerned authorities and institutions that interested in sustainable sector in Qatar to present their initiatives, provides innovative scientist solutions for this sector, and contribute in instilling and disseminating sustainability culture among all categories of the society.
