Qatar Joins 3rd OIC’S Ministers in Charge of Water Affairs Conference in Turkey

Attended by H.E Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Water Ministers, the members of the Islamic Cooperation Organization, the opening session and the activities of the Third Conference of Ministers in charge of water affairs in the organization which is hosted by the Government of the Republic of Turkey in Istanbul from 17 to 19 May, 2016 under the slogan of "From Vision to Application." The conference aims to implement the vision of Islamic Cooperation Organization about water which was adopted at the second session of the conference in Istanbul in 2012.

On this occasion, HE the Minister of Energy and Industry delivered a speech  that praised the Governmental role of the Turkey Republic that hosted the third session, which aims to achieve integration and cooperation in dealing with water issues in order to achieve water sustainability for the countries of the Organization. H.E also valued the vision of the Islamic Cooperation Organization about water to work together for a secured future in water field, developing the cooperation and coordinating efforts among Islamic States to face water challenges, promoting water security through strengthening dialogues and exchanging experiments; and finding affective solutions to the difficulties related to water security in order to achieve requirements of social and economic development in the countries of the organization.   

He also mentioned the keenness of State of Qatar under the Patronage of H.E Sheikh/ Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar, God protect him, for providing water to meet the growing needs of both industrial and commercial sectors and domestic consumption. He added that the State of Qatar has launched (Tarsheed) campaign in order to reduce water consumption per capita rate via a  five-year plan targets all sectors of the state. The campaign also aims to raise awareness among future generations about the importance of water conservation.

The conference aims to reach an agreement between the Members of the States about the concepts of the water council and water fund; which is an allocation of water and technical resources for water projects, according to the urgent needs of the countries. In addition to highlighting the Islamic Cooperation Organization's position in international forums of water. It also aims to promote cooperation among member of the states in all aspects related to water like exchanging knowledge and expertise, transferring technology, water management, linking distinguished centers within the countries of the organization and find solutions to the challenges associated with water.

By the end of conference, it is expected that the ministers will adopt decisions results of the this conference which would strengthen the vision implementation of the Islamic Cooperation Organization about water.
