Foreword of H.E. Dr. Al-SadaIn Occasion of WWD & Week of the Gulf Rationalization

1

State of Qatar celebrates with world of “World Water Day” which complies March 22 of every year due to its realization for the importance of water in continuing and developing the life on the Earth planet. The celebration of this day is shedding the light on the efforts of providing desalination water and promoting sustainable management of its resources through events and activities arranged by various countries and authorities, one of which, is State of Qatar.

Our realization to water importance has been connected to the verse “We made from water every living thing”. The water is connected to every things related to our life in building civilization and boosting the economy and development for better living to individuals and communities.

This concept coincides with the slogan of “World water day” for this year (Water and Jobs) to memorize us of water and jobs impact in changing life to the best where the labors of water sectors create about half of the world’s labor force. All the jobs depend on fresh water and labors’ efforts who work to provide it and ensure its quality and safety. Water is the main element for sustainable development. Thus, working to provide water resources, preserve them and enhancing the services connected to them are creating a decisive element in fundamental issues that are not limited to fight against poverty, economic growth, environmental sustainability, food security and human health.

Then, the reviving of World Water Day should not be an occasion for celebrating, but a cooperating opportunity to enhance level of life through promoting water resources management and conserving its consumption which ensure upgrading the life level of Earth’s residents who suffer from issues related to water for better tomorrow.

State of Qatar, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Emir, is committed to support everything related to provide, sustain, and preserve water resources. In this year’s celebration, we give a great attention to the importance for the main role of water and jobs in achieving the sustainable development and ensuring better future for coming generations; which coincide with Qatar National Vision 2030 that aims to turn Qatar by 2030 into an advanced country and able to provide a sustainable generous living for its people.

The celebration of World Water Day is coincides with the Gulf Cooperation Council’s celebration of “Week of the Gulf Rationalization” in March 22nd in order to raise awareness for the importance of conservation in preserving the main resources. Qatar celebrates this occasion by arranging many awareness activities that aims to instill the concepts of conservation and promoting its culture in the community. In addition to the need for concerted efforts to work in reducing waste and preserving resource to achieve sustainable development.

Qatar also works through the “Unified Gulf Campaign for Rationalization” in GCC countries which has been launched in twenty-eighth ministerial meeting of the cooperation on electricity and water of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Doha, under the slogan "Spare for the Last", in coordination with our brothers in Gulf Cooperation Council,  to raise awareness for the importance of conserving electricity and water consumption in order to preserve the rights of future generations.

I want to take this opportunity to invite everybody live on this generous land to cooperate in preserving water to achieve sustainable development and ensuring generous living through positively dealing with the Unified Gulf Campaign “Spare for the Last”, in addition to initiatives and objectives of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency that aims at reducing consumption rate by capita of water by 35% and water by 20% in 2017.
