1

Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) organized a live web chat for students yesterday at Qatar Scientific Club here with NASA Glenn Research Centre- DLN, Cleveland, Ohio, United States of America (USA).

The live interaction with students was organized with the collaboration of US Embassy in Qatar and Qatar Scientific Club under the ongoing summer activities for schools’ students. The aim of the event was to highlight the positive values of Tarsheed, the National Campaign for the Conservation and Efficient use of Water and Electricity among students.

The live chat through the satellite was screened for more than an hour with Mr. David Mazza, Technical Coordinator with the Learning Technologies Project at US- based NASA Glenn Research Centre.
Through the interactive informative session, students raised a number of smart and intelligent  questions concerning space, mars and other celestial bodies. Mr. Mazza and one of his students answered the students’ queries in- depth with footages and pictures taken during NASA space missions. Students cheered up when they saw NASA scientists Sunita Williams and her colleagues on the screen doing various activities in space. Students were overwhelmed with joys watching jump rope, soccer game, bathing activity and sleeping and resting scenario among others and got acquainted with the atmospheric impacts on these activities.

Students also raised questions over rocket-powered airplane and about its flying mechanism and the atmosphere of Mars and were keen to know the evidence of life there. At the end of the session, students said big thanks to Mr. Mazza and his team for providing interesting information. Mr. Mazza has previously visited Qatar Scientific Club.

Speaking on the occasion, KAHRAMAA’s Project Manager, Eng. Hashim Mohammed Al- Saada said that Tarsheed will certainly add new dimensions with students’ participation at such informative session and KAHRAMAA will soon organize other live sessions with space scientists across the world in collaboration with US Embassy Qatar and Qatar Scientific Club to create awareness among students on celestial bodies.
Tarsheed, the National Campaign for the Conservation and Efficient use of Water and Electricity, was launched under the patronage of His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani. The five-year campaign aims to increase environmental awareness and educate the public about the importance of consuming resources wisely.

Tarsheed presents a significant opportunity for organizations and individuals to join the national efforts to protect the country’s resources and reduce water and electricity consumption. KAHRAMAA is appealing to all Qatar’s residents to take an active role in the campaign so as to ensure Tarsheed’s success and the realization of Qatar’s National Vision 2030.

The Learning Technologies Project (LTP) at NASA Glenn Research Centre looks after developing LTP technical specifications and requirements for new educational applications with the latest state- of- the- art technology.
