Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) participated at MEED Qatar Projects 2015 Conference which was recently held in Doha.
The second day of the conference held on 11th March witnessed a presentation on KAHRAMAA’s Infrastructure Projects by its Water Projects Manager, Engineer Mohammed Salem Al- Mansoori. He spoke at length on upcoming projects and expansion plans of KAHRAMAA amidst a large number of International speakers and senior functionaries of the participating organizations.
During his presentation, Eng. Al- Mansoori highlighted the future water projects besides ambitious mega reservoirs project. The design of the mega reservoir project is completed in stages enabling KAHRAMAA to award construction contracts in phases.
Elaborating the future water projects, Eng. Al- Mansoori shared with the audiences about the construction of DMA (District Metering Area) Motorized Valves & SCADA integration and Facility E Associated Transmission Pipeline (Ras Laffan to Umm Salal PRPS…Primary Reservoir Pumping Station). These two projects are under tendering phase.
He also said that during 2015- 2018, three Reservoir Pumping Station (RPS) will be constructed at Mekeines, Zekrit and Hazm Abal Jihh areas with the total capacity of 18 MIG. He said that 40 KMs transmission pipelines (RAF A 3 Associated Transmission Pipeline) will be spread during the period.
Apart from the transmission lines, approx. 1590 KM distribution pipelines will be added to the networks during the period. The pipelines will be of 1000mm to 1200mm diameters, Eng. Al- Mansoori said.
He also informed the audiences that total 18 numbers of reservoirs in Doha will go through demolition & reconstruction works and finally the total capacity will reach 160 MIG.
During his presentation, Eng. Al- Mansoori also highlighted the additional features of ongoing mega reservoirs project. He said that after completion, mega reservoirs will be the largest concrete potable water reservoirs in the world. He said that the estimated amount of concrete to be used in the project is approximately 2 million m3.
The projects to be installed with over 600 km DI pipes (900mm to 1600 mm diameters) will equate to 55 thousands pipes. It will also be installed with over 20,000 m of carbon steel pipes (1600- 2400mm diameters). The total weight of pipes will be approximately 510, 000 tons. The pumping capacity at each reservoir site will be up to 23,000 m3/h, Eng. Al- Mansoori added.
The reservoirs have been designed to keep the water fit for human consumption. Water will be kept fresh by using circulation pumps and chlorination and supply will comply with local and World Health Organisation standards, he also said.
