Statement of Minister of Energy & Industry on world watar day

1
The State of Qatar is joining the world community today on 22nd March, to celebrate World Water Day 2015. The event reminds us again of the importance of water for life continuity on earth. Water issues occupy pride of place in the policies and interests of world countries as they directly affect people life and progress.
Our comprehension of water issues is derived from the holy verse that read “and We made from water every living thing”, as water is related with civilization, economic growth, and development for better future.
This understanding goes in line with the theme of World Water Day 2015 “Water and Sustainable Development”. It sheds light on the importance of water and its key role in all life aspects and sectors that contribute to the sustainable development. Water is the source of life, health, food, energy, industry, and civilization.
Water is the core of the sustainable development. Providing and keeping water resources, as well as improving the related services are the decisive elements in several key issues, including poverty reduction, economic growth, environmental sustainability, food security, and man health.
Word Water Day shouldn’t be a mere celebration, rather an opportunity for cooperation to improve life standards and promoting water resources and management to make a difference for the members of the global population who suffer from water related issues
The State of Qatar, under the wise leadership of His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al- Thani, is committed to supporting all activities and initiatives for the provision of sustainable water resources.
In 2015 celebration, we pay great concern to water as a key element to achieve the sustainable development and ensure better future. It goes in line with QNV 2030 which aims at transforming Qatar into an advanced country, capable of sustaining its own development and providing for a high standard of living for all of its people for generations to come.
The State of Qatar is pursuing a policy for the optimal use of resources as part of the Natural Recourses Management Strategy, which is the road map to ensure its sustainability and to protect the rights of the coming generations. The conservation of resources is a common responsibility, which calls upon us to increase energy efficiency, stop wasting and observe efficient use of water and electricity as daily habits.
The World Water Day coincides with GCC Conservation Week starting as of 22nd of March. It aims to mark the importance of conservation to save resources. The State of Qatar celebrates GCC Conservation Week by holding various activities to promote and deeply root the culture of conservation. It encourage the rational use and saving of resources to achieve the sustainable development.
I seize the opportunity to request all the nationals and expatriates to cooperate in extending their awesome cooperation in Qatar’s conservation drive in order to achieve the sustainable development and ensure better life for the coming generations. This can be achieved by applying the initiatives and objectives of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed”. The prime target of Tarsheed is to reduce the per capita water and electricity consumption in Qatar by 35% & 20%, respectively up to 2017.
