Statement of Kahramaa President On World Water Day

1
Water is lifeblood. The well-known civilizations have flourished where water sources were abundant, as they collapsed when it became rare. Hence, water lies at the heart of the sustainable development. Water resources and the related services should promote the issues of poverty reduction, economic growth and environmental sustainability, and thus contribute to the improvement of social welfare and growth for the billions of people by providing food security and energy, as well as human health and environment.
The world celebrates the World Water Day on March 22nd, due to the importance of water. It grabs the attention and interest of all societies with the intention to get solutions to communities that lack the presence of potable water.
On this occasion, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA” has launched various activities to celebrate the World Water Day. They are meant to increase the awareness of all society about the importance of water and the indispensability of conservation. This aim goes in line with the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” that KAHRAMAA launched in April 2012 under the patronage of His Highness, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al- Thani, The Emir of the State of Qatar. Tarsheed aims to reduce water per capita consumption by 35% and electricity by 20% up to 2017. Meanwhile, KAHRAMAA endeavors to provide sustainable and high quality services as per the highest Health, Safety, and Environment standards within a comprehensive strategy for the integrated and sustainable management of Qatar water resources.
In 2015, the theme for World Water Day is “Water and Sustainable Development”. It’s about how water links to all areas we need to consider to create the future we want.
KAHRAMAA is keen, through Tarsheed, to align its objectives with UN’s for the fourth straight celebration. It addresses all society classes via Tarsheed. The activates of Tarsheed in schools, and malls aim to reach all people in different languages. KAHRAMAA appeals for the positive interaction with Tarsheed activities to reduce waste, optimally use and keep resources for the coming generations.
We reiterate that conservation in a common responsibility to keep Qatar pulsing.
